Oakley Meta Smart Glasses Likely To Debut On June 20: What To Expect
Meta and Oakley are expected to unveil a new pair of smart glasses this Friday, likely tailored for athletes.
Tech enthusiasts and sportswear fans alike are waiting eagerly with speculations after a mysterious teaser was shared online, hinting at a major collaboration between Meta and Oakley. The joint venture is expected to be officially unveiled on Friday, June 20.
The teaser first appeared on a newly created and verified Instagram account titled Oakley | Meta. The post includes a collaborative video featuring both Meta and Oakley's official pages.
The teaser was also shared by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, further fuelling the excitement.
The presentation and branding of the teaser closely mimic Meta’s previous partnership with Ray-Ban, suggesting this could be an extension of Meta’s collaboration with glasses giant EssilorLuxottica, the parent company of both eyewear brands. This signals a strong likelihood that Oakley is about to join Meta’s growing smart glasses lineup, reported UploadVR.
Speculation around this development isn’t new. Bloomberg’s tech reporter Mark Gurman had already hinted at such a move in January 2025. At the time, Gurman stated the Oakley glasses would differ from the Ray-Ban Meta version in their design and intended audience. Unlike the Ray-Bans, which are fitted with a camera on the temple and are built for general use, Oakley’s smart glasses are said to feature a centrally located camera, geared specifically towards “cyclists and other athletes,” according to Gurman.
The Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses have performed well since their release. In February 2025, EssilorLuxottica revealed that more than two million units had been sold. The company also announced ambitious plans to increase its annual production capacity to 10 million units by the end of 2026.
Competition in the smart eyewear sector is heating up. According to UploadVR, at its I/O developer conference in May 2025, Google revealed collaborations with Warby Parker and Gentle Monster, as well as future plans with Kering Eyewear. Meanwhile, Gurman has also reported that Apple is developing its own smart glasses, potentially slated for a 2026 release.
For now, all eyes are on the announcement on June 20. If the rumours hold true, Oakley Meta glasses could be a game-changer for athletes seeking integrated tech in performance eyewear.
