Google Pixel 10 Can Borrow This Pixel 4 Feature To Boost Display
The feature will likely be on Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL but not on the Pixel 10 Pro Fold.

Google may bring back a long-lost Pixel feature with the Pixel 10. The series, which is tipped to launch on Aug. 20 and comprise Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and Pixel 10 Pro Fold, is likely to see a feature revival from the Pixel 4, a phone that surfaced back in 2019.
Google introduced many firsts in the Pixel 4 — from face unlock using two infrared cameras to radar. Ambient EQ was yet another feature exclusive to the Pixel 4, which automatically changed the white balance of the display according to the lighting conditions in the surroundings.
It appears that Google is bringing back Ambient EQ, albeit with a new name.
Ambient EQ May Return As Adaptive Tone On Pixel 10
According to an Android Authority report, Google is poised to bring its Ambient EQ feature back to the Pixel 10 series. Purportedly rebranded as Adaptive tone, the feature seeks to replicate Apple’s True Tone, which is available on iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks.
The Pixel 4 feature was discontinued with the Pixel 5 and later was only integrated in the Pixel Tablet. The feature is tipped to be named Adaptive tone, as it appears on the Pixel Tablet. The feature helps in "dynamically adapting the display to warmer or cooler tones based on ambient lighting", according to Google, similar to what it was on the Pixel 4.
What makes it possible is an improved ambient light and colour sensor called "ams TMD3743" and all Pixel 10 smartphones (except for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold) are probably going to have the new sensor.
Notably, Ambient EQ was criticised for falling short when trying to alter the white balance. But if Google has decided to resurrect an old feature, it must have done its homework and improved the latest version. How well the feature functions can only be seen when the Pixel 10 lands in users’ hands in August.
