GTA 6 Launch: Will Rockstar Surprise Us With A New Announcement?
For now, GTA 6 launch is expected during the Fall period. But will there be a GTA 7? Is Rockstar set to surprise everyone?
GTA 6 is set to launch later this year, some 12 years after the last mainline GTA game, which was GTA 5. But some fans wondered if this could be the final big return for the franchise, or will there be more? Will there be a GTA 7 surprise in store? A well-known Rockstar insider has shared his thoughts, sparking an exciting new rumour line.
Fans should not expect a GTA 7 any time soon, is what X user @Mvbbrr posted on February 23, 2025. What? Wait! GTA 7? Is that in the works? @Mvbbrr then indicated that Rockstar is reportedly working on a project called "ROME" and that it is allegedly something akin to GTA 6! Well, this information is unofficial, and you should take it with a pinch of salt. However, it did send a spark of excitement through the Great Theft Auto fandom!
What Is Project ROME?
The insider says Project ROME or Rockstar Online Modding Engine will make it much easier to create user-generated content in the GTA's online world.
However, @Mvbrr also raised concern about the project. Some suggested Rockstar and parent company Take-Two Interactive will eventually charge players to download mods or otherwise restrict user-created content. However, they warned that while everything might look rosy at first, the company could then place stricter controls after the release of GTA 6.
GTA 7 Or A New Experience?
After raising the hype skyhigh, @Mvbrr followed up with a dampener. A follow-up post then suggested that fans should not really expect GTA 7. Instead, Rockstar might take the online world in an ‘Online Storytelling Mode.’ The company believes that in there's no set of traditional sequels, but there are going to be ongoing updates and new content.
Nothing is confirmed yet, but @Mvbrr has been right about something in the past. The speculation about GTA's future comes as reports emerge that Rockstar has been in discussions with Fortnite and Roblox creators, possibly aiming to turn GTA 6 into a large-scale online platform.
For now, GTA 6 launch is expected during the Fall of 2025 for Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. And GTA 7? Stay tuned!
