Incessant rain in Colombo means the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 got off with Pakistan and New Zealand sharing the spoils on Feb. 21, walking away with a point each to their name.
From a steady drizzle at the Toss to a full-blown downpour as start time approached, the weather in Colombo refused to abate despite the match officials waiting for over two hours before calling off the game.
With both teams taking a point each, the result could prove significant in a tightly packed group, leaving no room for error with two games to go for either side.
The match was scheduled at the R. Premadasa Stadium, where heavy cloud cover and steady evening showers left the square fully covered. Pakistan's next outing is against England on Feb. 24 and Sri Lanka on Feb. 28. New Zealand, meanwhile, face Sri Lanka on Feb. 25 and England on Feb. 27 in their remaining two fixtures.
However, with all games in this group set to take place in Sri Lanka, we'll have to wait and watch how rain could play a role in deciding who makes it out to the semifinal stage of the tournament.
