Yograj Singh, the father of former India cricketer Yuvraj Singh, has often made headlines for his controversial remarks. On several occasions in the past, Yograj has alleged that former India captain MS Dhoni played a role in damaging Yuvraj's career.
Now, former India selector Sandeep Patil has weighed in on the debate, sharing his views on the long-running controversy. In his recent interview to Vicky Lalwani, Patil has cleared the air and said that Dhoni never asked the selectors to drop Yuvraj from the national team.
"Not once — not during selection meetings, not on tour, not during matches — did Mahendra Singh Dhoni say drop Yuvraj Singh. I am going on the record," Patil said in his interview on YouTube channel The Vicky Lalwani Show. "He had total confidence in the selection committee. He didn't say anything."
" A father feeling strongly about his son is not wrong. But the blame is being placed in the wrong place," Patil added.
In 2015, Yograj claimed that MS Dhoni did not want his son, Yuvraj Singh, to be part of India's ODI World Cup squad. His remarks came after the selection committee opted for Axar Patel ahead of Yuvraj in the World Cup lineup.
Patil was the chairman of the selectors of the BCCI at the time. The former cricketer served in the role from 2012 to 2016.
"I was shocked when I learnt that Yuvraj Singh was not in the World Cup squad. If MS Dhoni is having personal issues with my son, I won't do anything, god will do justice. He (Dhoni) told the selectors that Yuvraj was not needed in the squad," Yograj had said.
