Punjab Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad meet in a high-stakes IPL 2026 clash at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Wednesday, with both sides looking to bounce back after disappointing defeats in their previous outings.
PBKS, who made a blistering start to the season with six wins and one ‘No Result' due to rain, are entering unfamiliar territory after suffering back-to-back defeats for the first time in the campaign. Their momentum has slowed following losses to Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans, although they still remain at the top of the table with 13 points from nine matches.
SRH, meanwhile, are also looking for a response after their dominant five-match winning run ended against Kolkata Knight Riders. The Hyderabad side remain third in the standings with 12 points and continue to boast one of the most destructive batting lineups in the competition.
Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a seven-wicket defeat to KKR in their previous outing despite Travis Head smashing 61 off just 28 balls. SRH were eventually bowled out for 165 in 19 overs as Varun Chakaravarthy's spell of 3/36 derailed their middle order. KKR then chased the target comfortably, with Angkrish Raghuvanshi scoring 59 and Ajinkya Rahane adding 43.
Punjab Kings, meanwhile, fell to a four-wicket defeat against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. PBKS collapsed to 47/5 early in the innings before Suryansh Shedge's maiden IPL fifty and Marcus Stoinis' 40 helped them recover to 163/9. Gujarat eventually chased the target with one ball remaining with Washington Sundar's unbeaten 40 off 23 balls defying the Punjab bowling attack.
When the two teams met earlier this season in Mullanpur, Punjab Kings pulled off one of the standout chases of the tournament. SRH had put up a dominant total of 219/6, with Abhishek Sharma playing a blistering knock of 74 from just 24 balls. However, PBKS chased down the target with seven balls to spare to win by six wickets. Openers Prabhsimran Singh (51 off 25 balls) and Priyansh Arya (57 off 20 balls) laid the foundation for that chase before captain Shreyas Iyer produced a match-winning 69* off just 33 deliveries.

SRH have received a major boost since that game with Pat Cummins back from injury and taking up captaincy duties in the last three games. PBKS, meanwhile, have no fresh injury concerns heading into the contest.
For SRH, Abhishek Sharma remains the player to watch. The aggressive opener is currently second in the Orange Cap race with 440 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 206.57 and has already shown his ability against PBKS after smashing 141* off 55 balls against them in Hyderabad last season.
Punjab Kings will once again rely heavily on Prabhsimran Singh at the top of the order. The wicketkeeper-batter is their highest scorer this season with 361 runs at a strike rate of 174.39 and was instrumental in PBKS's successful chase against SRH earlier in the campaign.

SRH vs PBKS Pitch Report
The Hyderabad surface has remained heavily batting-friendly this season, with the flat wicket and quick outfield favouring strokeplay throughout the innings. Anything below 190 could be considered under-par at the venue.
Fast bowlers may get some early movement with the new ball, but conditions generally become easier for batting as the game progresses. Dew is also expected during the second innings, making chasing the preferred option at the toss.
