Dharavi Records 42 New Covid-19 Cases; Total At 632, Including 20 Deaths

Dharavi recorded 42 new confirmed cases of Covid-19, taking the total count of infected people in Mumbai's biggest slum to 632.

Among the latest to test positive are a month-old child, women aged between 22 years and 96 years and men aged between 16 years and 63 years, said Kiran Dighavkar, assistant commissioner in charge of the G/North Ward in Central Mumbai.

So far, 20 people have died of complications related to Covid-19 in Dharavi, a sprawl of shanties spread over 240 hectares with a population of 8.5 lakh and over 13,000 small businesses.

Of the 42 fresh cases:

  • Seven are from Matunga labour camp
  • Three each from 60 Feet road, 90 Feet road and Sant Rohidas Marg
  • Two each from Mukund Nagar, Azad Nagar, Uday society, and Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar.
  • One each from Pivla Bungalow, Dharavi Cross road, Sanaullah Compound, Dharavi PC, Gopal Mistry Chawl, Kumbharwada, Sabrinabai Chawl, Shiv Shakti Nagar, Abu Bakar Chawl, Muslim Nagar, Jagjivan Nagar, Kalyanwadi, Jalil Compound, Tansit camp, New Sidharath Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Social Nagar and Sona Nagar.

According to the data on the website of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Maharashtra has 12,974 cases of Covid-19.
