(Bloomberg) -- The world's longest undefended border will likely remain shut until late June, according to a newspaper report.
Canada and the U.S. agreed in March to close the border to non-essential travelers to help prevent further spread of the coronavirus. In April, they extended those measures until May.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's government and President Donald Trump's administration are now in talks to keep restrictions in place until June 21, the Globe and Mail reported Wednesday, citing unidentified sources familiar with the discussions.
“We're going to be very, very careful about reopening any international travel including the United States before we feel that it is time,” Trudeau told reporters Tuesday at a daily news briefing in Ottawa. He added that more news on the border was likely “in the coming days.”
In April, Trump said the border with Canada would be one of the earliest to be “released” when the time comes.
