(Bloomberg) -- The Trump administration asked the U.S. Supreme Court for an emergency order that would temporarily free the federal government to withhold law enforcement grants from so-called sanctuary cities in most of the country.
The administration says a nationwide injunction issued by a federal judge in Chicago was too sweeping and should have been limited to that city.
Chicago contends the Trump administration is placing unconstitutional conditions on the grants by requiring closer cooperation with federal immigration officials.
