South Sudan Vice President Riek Machar Tests Positive for Virus

(Bloomberg) --

South Sudan Vice President Riek Machar and several officials of a task force to fight the spread of the coronavirus tested positive for the disease.

Machar, 67, as well as his wife Angelina Teny, who serves as the country's defense minister and is also infected, will self-isolate at home until doctors “tell us it is time to unlock quarantine,” he said in a statement Monday. Several of his bodyguards have also tested positive, he said.

The government said in a separate statement the number of infections climbed to 347, with six deaths. Restrictions on road transport, taxis and regional flights were lifted earlier this month.
