Indira Jaising, Supreme Court lawyer and former Additional Solicitor General of India, has alleged that she and her husband Anand Grover were being "targeted" by the Central Bureau of Investigation due to their work in the field of human rights.

Jaising's comment came on a day when CBI carried out searches at her residence and offices of Lawyers Collective in Mumbai and Delhi. Lawyers Collective is a non-governmental organisation run by Grover.

The CBI raids were conducted at Jaising's office and residence in Nizamuddin area of Central Delhi and at the NGO's office at nearby Jungpura at 5:00 am. Lawyers Collective's offices in Mumbai were searched too.

On June 18, Grover was booked for allegedly violating the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010, in receiving foreign funding.

"Mr Grover and I are being targeted for the human rights work that we have done over the years," Jaising told reporters on Thursday.

CBI had filed a first information report against Grover and the NGO on the basis of a complaint from the Ministry of Home Affairs, which had alleged several discrepancies in the utilisation of foreign aid received by the organisation.

Jaising is not named as an accused in the FIR but her alleged role has been mentioned in the complaint of the ministry.
