(Bloomberg) -- Hong Kong extended mandatory quarantines to more countries, issued a global travel advisory to residents and said it would keep some schools shut longer as the coronavirus continues to spread around the world.
In a regular briefing on Tuesday, Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam detailed her government's new measures as the virus triggered unprecedented travel restrictions and business closures across the U.S., Canada and Europe.
The city extended mandatory 14-day quarantines to all countries outside of Greater China, and issued its second-highest “red” travel alert to all residents, effectively reiterating that it wasn't safe to travel during the global coronavirus outbreak. Mandatory quarantines had already previously been in place for mainland China and South Korea, and were recently expanded to include Europe.

“We will be very careful on school resumption,” Lam said on Tuesday. “From what we see now, a complete school resumption on April 20th is quite impossible. And even if the situation has stabilized, we could only reopen schools in phases.”
