Doing justice to the legacy of the HRD ministry under the Modi government's rule, India's Human Resource Development Minister, Prakash Javadekar has rewritten history, sprinkling it liberally with spice.
At a meeting on Monday in Chindwara in Madhya Pradesh, Javadekar committed a major blooper after he said former PM Jawahar Lal Nehru and Sardar Patel were hanged.
The faux pas came when Javadekar at the public rally was saluting the ones who gave their lives in helping India gain independence from the British in 1947. In the heat of the moment, Javadekar put Nehru and Patel in the same bracket as Bhagat Singh and Rajguru and thanked them for going to the gallows to ensure India's independence.
The fight for independence that lasted 90 years culminated when we threw the British out. We salute all those freedom fighters…. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Sardar Patel, Pandit (Jawahar Lal Nehru), Bhagat Singh and Rajguru who were hanged.Prakash Javadekar, Human Resource Development Ministe

August 23, 2016Javadekar's statement is factually incorrect because Nehru went on to become the first PM of India and died in 1964 of natural ailments, while fellow Congressman, Sardar Patel died in 1950.
Javadekar also mentioned Netaji Subahash Chandra Bose who, according to known records, died in a plane crash in Taiwan in 1945.

Javadekar Issues Clarification
The HRD Minister, however, took to Twitter to clarify the statement he made at the rally. In a series of tweets, Javadekar in a defiant tone said that his words were taken out of context, asserting that there was no scope for confusion for the audience present at the event.
I am amused with the news. I paid my respect to all the freedom fighters since 1857. (1/4)
August 23, 2016I mentioned leaders like Gandhi Nehru, Subhash Bose. It was a full stop. (2/4)
