The central government has done precious little to boost the economy under the Rs 20 lakh crore ‘atmanirbhaar' package, said Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel.

It's mere repackaging of some of the announcements made in the Union Budget, Baghel, who leads the Congress government in the state, said in an interview with Quintillion Media's Editorial Director Sanjay Pugalia on Rajpath.

(Finance Minister) Nirmala Sitharaman has repackaged the budget and put it in front of the country. No section has got anything much from this... There's nothing new, there's nothing which is outside the budget, everything comes under the budget. Only the attire has been changed. The country will not benefit from this.

The central Indian state is mineral rich and has companies like Vedanta Ltd. and Hindalco Ltd. already operating captive coal mines. With demand near rock bottom and no clear guidelines on how India plans to go about allowing commercial mining in the country, Baghel does not see too many bids coming in.

Chhattisgarh has been relatively successful in containing Covid-19. Baghel said its because of the prompt action taken by the local administration in putting incoming citizens into quarantine. That, he said, helped check the spread.
