Accused Russian Agent and U.S. Optimistic About a Deal

(Bloomberg) -- A Russian woman accused of acting as a Kremlin agent is close to reaching a deal with U.S. prosecutors and the two sides just need more time to iron out the details, according to a filing in Washington federal court.

In a request to a judge, Maria Butina and the U.S. government asked that filing deadlines be set aside so the two sides can work on a “final agreement.”

Separately, U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan on Wednesday denied Butina's request to be transferred from solitary confinement to the general population, saying the request was based on hearsay and speculation about the reason for her placement in segregation.
