University of Illinois Taps Vanderbilt’s Shore to Run Its $2.7 Billion Portfolio

The University of Illinois Foundation named Travis Shore, deputy chief investment officer at Vanderbilt University, to run its $2.7 billion investment portfolio.

Shore, 46, has been at Vanderbilt for the last eight years leading the private and public investment teams and begins at Illinois this spring, the school said Wednesday in a statement. He succeeds interim CIO Edward Creedon.

Before joining Vanderbilt, Shore, a CFA charterholder, worked in investment roles at the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, New York University and the University of Florida.

Vanderbilt posted a 57% return for fiscal 2021, among the best performing funds in the year.

The Illinois Foundation is based in Chicago and manages the school's endowment and foundation money. The portfolio returned 35% for fiscal 2021.
