English Premier League Clubs Agree to Complete Season

(Bloomberg) --

Premier League clubs are still committed to finishing the current season and are considering the first tentative moves forward. A statement from England's top soccer league highlights clubs will only return to training and playing with government guidance and after consultation with players and managers.

According to the Daily Mail, the clubs will present their restart plans to the U.K. government for approval on Friday evening. The Daily Mail also reported that the clubs agreed to play on neutral grounds, with West Ham, Arsenal and Manchester City likely to be chosen as the hosts of the neutral games.

Liverpool is in line to be the crowned winner of England's first division, with a significant 25 point lead over Manchester City. It would be Liverpool's first Premier League win since 1990. Bournemouth, Aston Villa and Norwich City find themselves at the bottom of the league table, risking relegation.

This follows similar measures introduced by the Bundesliga, Germany's soccer league, who aims to restart its season on May 9, possibly without spectators. Two major European leagues have canceled their football seasons so far. Dutch league Eredivisie ended their season with no champion and relegation. France's Ligue 1 has also been called off with Paris Saint-Germain named champions.
