(Bloomberg) -- A Kenyan High Court temporarily stopped the enforcement of a directive that requires people seeking government services to be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.
Judge Antony Mrima suspended the directive, that was to come into effect next week, pending hearing and determination of the matter, according to the judiciary.
The Health Ministry had said people seeking state services, in-person, would need proof of vaccination from Dec. 21. The government also planned to restrict access to places including hospitals, prisons, game parks, malls as well as hotels, bars, restaurants and businesses that attend to 50 people or more in a day.
Only 3.2 million people have so far been fully vaccinated, about a third of an end-of-year target of 10 million adults, according to government data.
Kenya's Covid-19 positivity rate climbed above the 5% threshold on Monday for the first time since the authorities eased control measures two months ago.
