Germany Reports Fewest New Coronavirus Cases in Four Days

(Bloomberg) --

The number of new coronavirus cases in Germany rose at the slowest pace in four days and the country reported the fewest number of deaths in five days.

There were 1,068 additional infections, taking the total to 164,077, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. Fatalities rose by 113 to 6,736 and the death rate remained at 4.1% of those infected.

On Thursday, Germany announced it will allow playgrounds, zoos, museums and churches to reopen, but will maintain travel restrictions and most other curbs on public life. Chancellor Angela Merkel said a broader easing of the country's lockdown will be evaluated on May 6, when policy makers will have more reliable data on the impact of initial meaures that started on April 20.

TUI AG's German arm said Thursday all package holidays will be suspended until June 14, following the recommendation of Germany's Foreign Office, adding that vacations within Germany may be possible from sometime after mid-May.
