(Bloomberg) -- Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV said it's recalling about 1.4 million cars and trucks in the U.S. to repair a condition that may keep seat-belt tighteners and air bags from deploying in a crash.
There have been three fatalities and five injuries possibly related to the situation, the company said in a statement Thursday. The problem arises with a particular combination of restraint-control devices, front-impact sensor wiring and type of collision.
The vehicles involved include the following cars: 2010 Chrysler Sebring, 2011-2014 Chrysler 200, the 2010-2012 Dodge Caliber, and 2010-2014 Dodge Avenger. Also recalled are 2010-2014 Jeep Patriot and Compass sport utility vehicles.
Additionally, the recall extends to about 509,000 vehicles outside the U.S., Fiat Chrysler said. That total includes about 143,000 in Canada and 81,900 in Mexico.
