China’s Legislature Reviews Proposal on Annual Meeting Date

(Bloomberg) -- China's lawmakers discussed Sunday when to commence the country's highest-profile annual political meeting, after it was postponed for the first time in decades amid the coronavirus pandemic, according to state media.

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, the top legislative body, reviewed the proposed date of the annual NPC meeting, Xinhua News Agency reported, without giving an exact date.

The gathering of the NPC usually runs for about two weeks in Beijing and is attended by President Xi Jinping and other top leaders. Last week, Bloomberg reported that China is considering holding the meeting in late May and that at least one set of dates considered is May 23-30.
