Bone Fragments Found in Search for Second Colorado Wildfire Victim

Bone fragments have been found in the search for an elderly woman missing since trying to save her dogs from last month's historic wildfire in Boulder County, Colorado, police said Wednesday.

“Small bone fragments have been recovered and scientific testing is underway to determine if the collected fragments are human or non-human,” the Boulder County Sheriff's Office said in a press release. “Scientific testing can take weeks to months in these cases.”

Edna Nadine Turnbull was last seen entering her home in the Town of Superior to rescue her dogs, the sheriff's office said. Her family said she was 91.

The remains of a man killed in the blaze were located in another part of Boulder County and identified earlier this month.

The Dec. 30 wildfire, fueled by hurricane force winds and drought-parched grassland, swept through the county and damaged or destroyed more than 1,000 homes and buildings.

On Jan. 11, investigators completed the search of a religious compound in the vicinity of the presumed ignition point of a wildfire.
