The majority of banks in India will remain closed on April 1 as financial institutions will take time off to close their accounts for the year 2024-25 (FY25). The ongoing financial year will hit its deadline on March 31.

According to RBI's holiday calendar, banks in all states and union territories except Mizoram, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya will remain closed on April 1.

In light of the expected heavy transactions on Mar. 31, the Reserve Bank of India cancelled the Eid holiday in India. Originally designated to mark the Muslim festival, the holiday has been revoked to ensure that the banks remain operational on the last day of the financial year. March 31. It must be noted that the decision was made keeping in mind the heavy transactions that are expected to take place on the last working day of the financial year. 

In the month of April, as many as 10 bank holidays are scheduled in various states and union territories of India. Customers are advised to check with their local branches to avoid any inconvenience during their visits. The RBI calendar has designated 10 holidays in April, depending on local festivities and regional observances.

  • Apr. 1 - To enable banks to close their yearly accounts / Sarhul in Jharkhand

  • Apr. 5 - Babu Jagjivan Ram's Birthday (Telangana)

  • Apr. 10 - Mahavir Janmakalyanak / Mahavir Jayanti (Not in Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Chandigarh, Bihar, Tripura, Jammu, Kashmir, Goa, Kerala, Sikkim, and northeastern states.

  • Apr. 14 - Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti / Vishu / Biju / Buisu Festival / Maha Vishuva Sankranti / Tamil New Year's Day / Bohag Bihu / Cheiraoba (New Delhi, MP, some northeastern states like Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh excluded)

  • Apr. 15 - Bengali New Year's Day / Himachal Day / Bohag Bihu (Only in Himachal, West Bengal, Assam, Mizoram, Arunachal Pradesh)

  • Apr. 16 - Bohag Bihu (Only in Assam)

  • Apr. 18 - Good Friday (Not in Mizoram, Chandigarh, Assam, Rajasthan, Kashmir, Himachal, Jammu)

  • Apr. 21 - Garia Puja (Only in Mizoram)

  • Apr. 29 - Bhagwan Shri Parshuram Jayanti (Only in Himachal)

  • Apr. 30 - Basava Jayanti / Akshaya Tritiya (Only in Karnataka)
