Hundreds of IndiGo passengers were stranded at Istanbul airport for hours due to flight delays. The airline apologised for the inconvenience.

Details of the affected flights could not be confirmed immediately, but many passengers complained on social media about delays of over 36 hours and a lack of facilities at the airport. Some had been stranded since Thursday.

IndiGo operates two daily flights to Istanbul with Boeing 777 aircraft, one from Delhi and one from Mumbai.

In response to a customer post on social media platform X, the airline stated that the delay was due to "operational reasons." "Our airport team is available at all touchpoints to assist customers, and meals are being offered to ease the wait. We assure you that our teams are working diligently to get the aircraft airborne at the earliest," the airline said.

IndiGo did not provide specific details about the flights or the number of affected passengers and the time it will take to resolve.

Some passengers shared pictures of those stuck at the airport.

"Due to technical issues, IndiGo flights from Mumbai and Delhi to Istanbul experienced delays. This led to cascading delays in the return sectors. All necessary steps were taken to ensure customers were apprised, and they were provided with refreshments and accommodation, where possible," the airline said in a statement on Friday evening.

Earlier, IndiGo had apologised for the inconvenience caused to passengers.

In a post on X, one passenger said, "first time to India and stranded at the Istanbul Airport for the last 24 hours because the IndiGo flight keeps cancelling. No food. No clarity. No representative, No compensation, Pathetic treatment."

Another passenger posted on X, "Lot of people stranded at the airport due to pathetic services by @IndiGo6E and @TurkishAirlines operators. Never book flights with them as they don't value passengers' time. You can never be on time with @IndiGo6E."
