India's Active COVID-19 Cases Near 4,900: 564 New Infections Reported In 24 Hours

According to the Union Health Ministry data, a total of seven deaths were reported since yesterday, including three from Maharashtra and two each from Karnataka and Delhi.

India reported 4,866 active COVID-19 cases as of Thursday, with 564 new cases in the last 24 hours, according to the government data. 

According to the Union Health Ministry data, a total of seven deaths were reported since Wednesday, including three from Maharashtra and two each from Karnataka and Delhi.

A total of 3,955 patients have been discharged following treatment, with 674 recoveries reported in the last 24 hours alone, the government data till 8 a.m. on June 5 showed.

Kerala is witnessing the highest surge in COVID-19 cases with 114 cases added since Wednesday, taking its total active cases to 1,487. West Bengal, Karnataka and Delhi are among other states where more than 100 fresh cases were recorded in the last 24 hours.

Delhi Records 105 COVID-19 Cases In A Single Day

So far Delhi has recorded 562 active COVID-19 cases, of which 105 were logged since June 4. In the national capital, two COVID-19-related deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, including a 5-month-old baby with cerebral palsy, developmental delay and respiratory failure. The second death was of an 87-year-old man with diabetes, hypertension, heart and kidney disease and COVID pneumonia.

COVID-19 Deaths In India In Past 24 Hours

In Karnataka, two COVID-19-related deaths were reported: a 65-year-old and a 42-year-old. Both individuals had significant underlying health conditions.

In Kerala, all three COVID-19-related deaths involved patients aged 79. Two were male and one female and all were suffering from underlying health conditions, as per the information shared by the government.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Puducherry reported a decline in COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases across India, all states have been directed by the Centre to ensure availability of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators and essential medicines. 

Since January, India has reported a total of 51 COVID-19 deaths.

All states have been instructed to ensure availability of oxygen, isolation beds, ventilators and essential medicines in view of rising cases of Covid, official sources said on Wednesday.

A series of technical review meetings were held on June 2 and 3 under the chairpersonship of Director General of Health Services (DGHS) Dr Sunita Sharma.
