Red alert has been issued across many districts in Karnataka, especially in the coastal areas. An orange alert has been issued for many coastal districts of Kerala for the next few days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy to very heavy rainfall warnings for several parts of Kerala and Karnataka over the next few days. In its latest weather bulletin at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, the weather agency predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall over Kerala and Karnataka from May 23 to May 29.
“Fairly widespread to widespread light or moderate rainfall accompanied with thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds speed reaching 40-50 kmph with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall likely over Kerala, Karnataka during May 23-29,” the weather agency said.

As heavy downpour continued to affect normal life in the southern state, the IMD on Friday issued an orange alert for at least six districts of Kerala, including Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.
The reason behind the pre-monsoon showers is the formation of a well-marked low-pressure area over east-central Arabian Sea off the south Konkan coast on Friday morning. It is expected to move northwards and intensify further into a depression, IMD stated.
The weather agency also outlined that the conditions are likely to become favourable for Monsoon onset over Kerala during the next two days.
