Dharavi Redevelopment Project: Survey Crosses 63,000 Tenements, Surpassing 2008 Record
The expanded scope of the current survey reflects a concerted effort to pave the way for one of the largest urban renewal initiatives in the region.

In a major development for the Dharavi Redevelopment Project, the ongoing survey has surpassed the achievements of the previous 2007–08 survey, which documented around 60,000 ground-floor tenements.
To date, over 63,000 residential and commercial structures have been surveyed, with the count continuing to rise, according to a press release.
This milestone marks significant progress in mapping Dharavi's landscape, a vital step toward implementing the Slum Rehabilitation Authority guidelines, which consider only ground-floor tenements eligible for free housing.
The expanded scope of the current survey reflects a concerted effort to pave the way for one of the largest urban renewal initiatives in the region, the release said.
"This redevelopment scheme is not limited to ground-floor tenements but also covers upper-floor structures. It shows that the government is committed to ensuring housing for all. No one in Dharavi will be left behind," SVR Srinivas, chief executive officer of Dharavi Redevelopment Project, said.
As per the latest survey results, over 95,000 tenements have undergone lane inspections, numbering has been done for more than 89,000 tenements and door-to-door surveys have covered over 63,000 tenements.
Navbharat Mega Developers Pvt., the special purpose vehicle created for the project, is planning to build around 1.5 lakh tenements. This is due to the vertical expansion of most hutments to G+2 levels, which has significantly increased the number of tenements requiring rehabilitation.
"We are pleased to be nearing the end of the survey and encourage any resident who hasn’t been covered yet to come forward as soon as possible. We have seen a tremendous response from Dharavikars," said Navbharat Mega Developers spokesperson.
