The deadline of April 15 for residents and shop owners of Dharavi to submit documents for the Dharavi Redevelopment Project has officially passed, and authorities have made it clear that there will be no further extensions for those who refused to participate.

Verification of the submitted documents is now set to begin. On this note, the Deputy Collector and head of the Dharavi Redevelopment Project's survey stated that the process of drafting Annexure-2 is underway. "We will now begin preparing the draft of Annexure-2 based on documents from areas where door-to-door surveys have been completed. Citizens who were unwilling to participate will be listed in the draft as 'documents not received'," he said.

Currently, a survey is underway in some areas to ensure that no one is left out of the Dharavi Redevelopment Project. This project was initiated with the sentiment of 'a rightful home for everyone' and the government's stance is that no one should be deprived of these benefits, he added.

The project has made significant progress on the ground. According to latest data, physical measurements have been taken for nearly 1 lakh houses and shops, of which 94,500 have been issued unique ID numbers. Around 89,000 structures have been digitally mapped using LiDAR technology, while on-site verification for about 70,000 of these is already complete.

However, the administration is drawing a hard line when it comes to non-compliance. "Dharavikars who are not willing to register for the Dharavi Redevelopment Project will henceforth be recognised as unauthorised occupants. Their records will be maintained accordingly from now on."
