One elderly woman died after a tree collapsed on her house in the Konaseema district due to the cyclone's impact. In separate but similar incidents, a young boy and an auto driver were injured as strong winds uprooted coconut trees.

South Central Railway CPRO said that due to prevailing cyclonic conditions, Indian Railways has so far cancelled 122 trains, while a few others have been regulated, rescheduled, or diverted. In total, around 160 trains have been affected.
Most of these trains operate between the Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada sections, which are likely to experience the impact of the cyclone. Therefore, services on those routes have been cancelled.

Standing crops within an area of 38,000 hectares and horticulture crops spread over 1.38 lakh hectares were destroyed in Andhra Pradesh due to the impact of the severe cyclonic storm 'Montha', the CMO said.
"Due to the impact of the cyclone, heavy rains across the state destroyed standing crops in 38,000 hectares and horticulture crops in 1.38 lakh hectares," said a press release from the chief minister's office, citing preliminary estimates.

As per IMD cyclone Montha has commenced its landfall process. The process will continue for coming 3-4 hours.

IMD has warned of heavy rainfalls in Andhra Pradesh, with Machilipatnam already bearing witness to downpour and strong winds. Cyclone Mantha is expected to make a landfall shortly.
As many as 37 flights have been cancelled in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, of these are 30 IndiGo flights, 2 Air India flights and 5 Air India Express flights.
IMD says, "The Cyclonic Storm Montha over the west-central Bay of Bengal moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 15 kmph during the past 6 hours, intensified into a severe cyclonic storm, and lay centred at 0530 hrs IST today, the 28th October 2025, about 190 km south-southeast of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 270 km south-southeast of Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh), 340 km south-southwest of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), and 550 km south-southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha)."
The cyclone has moved at a speed of 12 kmph for the past six hours. It is currently centered 120 km from Machilipatnam, 200 km from Kakinada, and 290 km from Visakhapatnam.
In response to the severe impact of Cyclone Montha, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has instructed officials from the East Coast Railway and South Central Railway zones to remain on high alert and initiate immediate restoration efforts, as per NDTV.
All flights, 32 in total, operating out of Visakhapatnam Airport were cancelled on Tuesday due to the severe cyclonic storm ‘Montha’, as per the Hindu.
Cyclone Montha’s intensifying winds and high waves have covered the Kakinada coast, spreading across the Uppada Beach Road and cutting off access between key coastal areas. Authorities have closed the road to the public as a precaution, with parts of it reportedly washed away by the sea surge, as reported by NDTV.
In anticipation of Cyclone Montha’s impact, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has mobilised 45 specialized teams across vulnerable regions, as per the Hindu.

More than 9,700 residents, primarily fisherfolk, have been evacuated from 67 villages across 12 coastal mandals along the Kakinada shoreline as Cyclone Montha approaches, as per the Hindu.

The Vijayawada division of South Central Railway (SCR) has cancelled 54 trains on October 28 and 29 due to Cyclone Montha, the Hindu reported.
The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for coastal Tamil Nadu, including Chennai and Tiruvallur, warning of heavy rainfall on Tuesday due to Cyclone Montha’s intensification over the Bay of Bengal, The Indian Express reported.
A red alert was issued for seven districts in Andhra Pradesh on Monday due to Cyclone Montha, however the most intense rainfall has so far been recorded in Visakhapatnam and Anakapalli, as per the Hindu.
Cyclones in the North Indian Ocean are named from a predetermined list submitted by member countries in the region. The name ‘Montha’ was proposed by Thailand, one of the 13 nations involved in the naming process. In Thai, ‘Montha’ translates to a fragrant or a beautiful flower.

Cyclone Montha will make landfall in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha meanwhile is bracing for its spillover impact. The state government has issued a red alert in eight southern districts — Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi and Kandhama, India Today reported.
The Odisha government geared up evacuation of people from vulnerable places amid inclement weather in eight southern districts where a 'red alert' has been sounded.

In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Dr M Mohapatra, Director General of the India Meteorological Department, said, "Andhra Pradesh will be the most affected, followed by Odisha and then Chhattisgarh. Heavy rainfall will continue in Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Tamil Nadu between October 28 and 30".
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) and the Meteorological Department on Monday forecast high sea waves along the Andhra Pradesh coast from Nellore to Srikakulam, ranging between 2 and 4.7 metres as cyclone 'Montha' is set to intensify into a cyclonic storm on October 28 morning.
