BMC Presents Rs 74,427-Crore Budget 2025-26 — Education A Key Highlight

Mumbai BMC Budget: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Bhushan Gagrani, presented its budget for the financial year 2025-26 on Tuesday, proposing a total outlay of Rs 74,427 crore. This marks a 14.19% increase from the previous year's budget estimate of Rs 65,180 crore.

The budget highlighted that four new CBSE Board schools were established in 2024-25, bringing the total to 21 schools, including ICSE, IGCSE, and IB Board schools.

Welfare schemes and projects for 2025-26 include free distribution of scholastic materials, with a budget provision of Rs 140 crore for primary and Rs 35 crore for secondary education.

It also includes girls' attendance allowance scheme with a budget of Rs 7.16 crore for primary and Rs 39 lakh for secondary education. There are also scholarships for Divyang (disabled) students with a budget provision of Rs 25 lakh.

New Projects And Welfare Schemes For FY26

STEM Robotics and Cyber Literacy

  • A STEM Robotics Laboratory will be set up with a budget of Rs 10 crore.

  • Cyber Literacy projects will be implemented with a budget of Rs 11.80 crore each for primary and secondary education.

Student Assessment System

  • An effective assessment management system will be developed with a budget of Rs 1.70 crore.

Supplementary Nutrition and Guide Books

  • Provision of supplementary nutrition with a budget of Rs 101.37 crore for primary and Rs 16 crore for secondary education.

  • Distribution of guide books with a budget of Rs 4.43 crore.
