India's Bharatiya Janata Party secured the majority of seats in the by-elections that were conducted in seven constituencies across six Indian states.

The country's ruling party secured four seats out of the seven, while Rashtriya Janta Dal won one seat and Shiv Sena-Uddhav secured one. Telangana Rashtra Samithi secured one seat.

Before the polls, which took place on Nov. 3, BJP held three seats, the Congress two while the Shiv Sena and the Rashtriya Janta Dal had one each.

The BJP retained its foothold in Gola Gokrannath in Uttar Pradesh and Dhamnagar in the BJD-ruled Odisha.

Meanwhile, just one party couldn't secure both constituencies in Bihar. The assembly polls of Mokama and Gopalganj were the first electoral test for Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who left his alliance with BJP to form government again with support from Lalu Prasad-led RJD.

BJP's Kusum Devi won in Bihar's Gopalganj, against RJD's Mohan Prasad Gupta, while RJD's Neelam Devi won against BJP's Sonam Devi in Mokama constituency of Bihar.

Meanwhile, Rutuja Latke, the wife of late Shiv Sena MLA Ramesh Latke, whose demise necessitated the by-poll in Andheri East constituency, secured the seat by a margin of 64,959 votes.
