Bank Holidays In May 2025: Banks To Remain Closed On These Dates; Check Full List Here

Banks in India will remain closed for 12 days in May 2025, including holidays on Saturdays and Sundays. As per the RBI calendar, May 1, 9, 12, 16, 26 and 29 are listed as bank holidays. Apart from this, banks will remain closed on all four Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays.

Important holidays in the month include Labour Day and Maharashtra Day on May 1, and Buddha Purnima on May 12.

Full List Of Bank Holidays In May 2025

  • May 1 (Thursday): On the occasion of Maharashtra Day and Labour Day, banks will remain closed in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, Kerala, West Bengal, Goa and Bihar.

  • May 9 (Friday): Banks will be closed in West Bengal to mark the birthday of Rabindranath Tagore.

  • May 12 (Monday): Banks in Tripura, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Himachal Pradesh on account of Buddha Purnima.

  • May 16 (Friday): Banks in Sikkim will be closed to mark Sikkim State Day.

  • May 26 (Monday): On the birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam, banks in Tripura will observe a holiday.

  • May 29 (Thursday): Banks in Himachal Pradesh will remain closed on Maharana Pratap Jayanti.

The RBI announces bank holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881. The list of bank holidays varies state-wise.

While banks will remain operational on the first, third, and fifth Saturdays of May, they will remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays. 

If you have any tasks pending that would require you to visit the bank, you must take note of the RBI bank holiday calendar and schedule your visit on a working day.

It is important to note that though bank branches are closed on a holiday, you can continue to use net banking, ATMs, mobile banking and apps even on holidays.
