The working class in India usually remains busy throughout the week from Monday to Friday and keeps their pending official tasks for Saturday. This may include work in banks and post offices. However, it must be noted that banks are not open on all Saturdays.

The first Saturday of the month, which is Jan. 4, is approaching soon. What does this mean in terms of bank holidays? Let's find out.

Are Banks Open On Saturday, Jan. 4?

Banks are typically open on the first, third and fifth (if applicable) Saturdays of the month unless specified otherwise by the RBI or the state government. Since Jan. 1 is the first Saturday, banks across India will remain open on this day.

According to the bank holiday guidelines of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), banks are typically closed on second and fourth Saturdays and all Sundays.

Apart from the weekend holidays, banks are closed on public and regional holidays, which vary from state to state and region to region.

According to the RBI bank holiday calendar, bank holidays are classified into three broad categories — Holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Real Time Gross Settlement Holidays, and Banks' Closing of Accounts.
