Your Guide To FII Positions For March 19 Trade

Foreign portfolio investors snapped a 17-session selling streak in Indian equities to turn buyers on Tuesday. They became buyers of index futures, as well as stock futures and options, and offloaded index options.

FIIs In Cash Market

Foreign portfolio investors bought stocks worth Rs 694.6 crore on Tuesday after they turned net buyers of Indian equities after 17 straight sessions, as per the revised provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

Domestic institutional investors mopped up stocks worth Rs 2,534.8 crore, as per the revised numbers.

FIIs In Futures And Options

Ahead of the March 27 expiry, the value of outstanding positions—also called open interest in the derivatives segment—has decreased for the foreign institutional investors in the Nifty futures. The FIIs' long-to-short ratio in index futures remains at 23:77.

The FIIs were net buyers of index futures worth Rs 4,761.4 crore and sellers of index options worth Rs 13,919.3 crore. They bought stock futures worth Rs 3,302 crore and stock options worth Rs 818.5 crore.

FII Contract Value

The value of the total Nifty 50 futures open interest in the market decreased by Rs 475.4 crore at the end of the March expiry from Rs 38,858.8 crore a day earlier to Rs 38,383.4 crore.

F&O Cues

The Nifty March futures were up 1.41% to 22,895.40 at a premium of 61.1 points, with the open interest down 2.57%.

The open interest distribution for the Nifty 50 March 20 expiry series indicated most activity at 23,000 call strikes, and the 22,500 put strikes had the maximum open interest.

Long-Short Ratio

The total long-short ratio for foreign investors remained flat at 1.38.
