Foreign portfolio investors remained net sellers of Indian equities for the ninth straight session on Wednesday. They were net sellers in index and stock options and buyers in index and stock futures.

FIIs In Cash Market

Foreign portfolio investors remained net sellers of Indian equities for the ninth straight session on Wednesday and sold stocks worth Rs 4,533.5 crore.

Domestic institutional investors have been buyers for 21 consecutive sessions and bought stocks worth Rs 3,682.5 crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

So far in January, the FPIs have sold stakes worth Rs 35,658 crore, according to the National Securities Depository Ltd.

The FPIs have offloaded stocks worth Rs 7,806.3 crore in the stock exchanges until Jan. 14, according to the NSDL data collected by NDTV Profit.

FIIs In Futures And Options

Ahead of the Jan. 25 expiry, the value of outstanding positions—also called open interest in the derivatives segment—has increased for the FIIs in the Nifty futures. The FIIs' long-to-short ratio in index futures remains at 17%:83%.

The FIIs sold index options worth Rs 65,548.3 crore and stock options worth Rs 140.4 crore. They bought index futures worth Rs 186.64 crore and stock futures worth Rs 1,664.35 crore.

FII Contract Value

The value of the total Nifty 50 futures open interest in the market decreased by Rs 514.19 crore at the end of January expiry from Rs 32,007.61 crore a day earlier to Rs 31,493.42 crore.

F&O Cues

The Nifty January futures were up by 0.02% to 23,275.95 at a premium of 62.75 points, with the open interest down by 1.58%.

The open interest distribution for the Nifty 50 Jan. 16 expiry series indicated most activity at 23,300 call strikes, with the 23,200 put strikes having maximum open interest.

Long-Short Ratio

The total long-short ratio for foreign investors fell to 1.19 from 1.26 in the previous session.
