Your Guide To FII Positions For Jan. 15 Trade

Foreign portfolio investors stayed net sellers of Indian equities for the eighth straight session on Tuesday. They were also net sellers in index futures while they bought stock options and futures and index options.

FIIs In Cash Market

Foreign portfolio investors stayed net sellers of Indian equities for the eighth straight session on Tuesday and sold stocks worth Rs 8,132.3 crore.

Domestic institutional investors have been buyers for 20 consecutive sessions and bought stocks worth Rs 7,901.1 crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

So far in January, the FPIs have sold stakes worth Rs 27,892 crore, according to the National Securities Depository Ltd.

The FPIs have offloaded stocks worth Rs 4,340.9 crore in the stock exchanges until Jan 13, according to the NSDL data collected by NDTV Profit.

FIIs In Futures And Options

Ahead of the Jan. 25 expiry, the value of outstanding positions—also called open interest in the derivatives segment—has increased for the FIIs in the Nifty futures. The FIIs' long-to-short ratio in index futures remains at 16%:84%.

The FIIs sold index futures worth Rs 458.08 crore. They bought index options worth Rs 22,951.29 crore and stock futures worth Rs 3,958.56 crore and stock options worth Rs 1,408.79 crore.

FII Contract Value

The value of the total Nifty 50 futures open interest in the market decreased by Rs 111.1 crore at the end of January expiry from Rs 32,118.71 crore a day earlier to Rs 32,007.61 crore.

F&O Cues

The Nifty January futures were up by 0.51% to 23,280.00 at a premium of 103.95 points, with the open interest down by 0.82%.

The open interest distribution for the Nifty 50 Jan. 16 expiry series indicated most activity at 24,000 call strikes, with the 23,000 put strikes having maximum open interest.

Long-Short Ratio

The total long-short ratio for foreign investors rose to 1.26 from 1.21 in the previous session.
