US Stock Markets Today: S&P 500 Up 0.49%, Dow Jones Opens 0.35% Higher

All three main US stock market indices opened higher on Tuesday. The broader S&P 500 opened 0.49% higher at 6,025.93, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite gained 0.49% to 19,725.58 at the opening bell.

The 30-stock Dow Jones Industrial Average advanced 0.35% to 43,638.85 as the trading commenced on Wall Street.

Among the stocks that gained in early trade were Nike Inc. Cl B, American Express Co. and Walmart Inc. Stocks like Apple Inc., Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and McDonald's Corp. dipped in the early minutes of trade.

Among the 11 S&P 500 sectoral indices, all barring two were trading higher against the previous day's close. The gains were led by information technology, communication services and energy.

"Risky assets should benefit from deregulation and tariffs emerging as not so bad as feared," Mohit Kumar, chief economist at Jefferies International Ltd., told Bloomberg.

“For rates, less onerous tariffs and likely lower oil prices should be positive. We do admit that there would be an additional element of volatility," he added.

As the US market opened, spot gold was edging 1.02% higher at $2,735.97, and Brent crude oil was trading 1.42% lower at $79.01.

The Bloomberg Dollar Index rose 0.4%, with the British pound slipping 0.4% to $1.2278, while the Japanese yen changed slightly to 155.60 per dollar.

Bitcoin, the largest traded cryptocurrency, soared 0.5% to $102,984.82.
