US Stock Markets Today: All Three Indices Open Strong, S&P 500 Up 0.4%

The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite was up 0.6% as trading commenced at the Wall Street.

All three Wall Street indices opened on a positive note on Friday, with S&P 500 looking to snap its five-day losing streak. The broader index opened 0.4% higher at 5,891.07.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite was also up 0.6% at 19,395.51, whereas the 30-stock Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.25% to 42,392.27.

Among the major companies that advanced in early trade were Amazon.com Inc., NVIDIA Corp. and Microsoft Corp.; whereas Nike Inc., McDonald's Corp. and Apple Inc. were among the stocks that slipped.

Out of the 11 S&P 500 sectoral indices, seven were trading lower against the previous day's close. The loss was led by real estate, information technology, consumer staples while energy, healthcare and utilities led the gain.

As the US market opened, spot gold was trading 0.41% lower at $2,647.09 an ounce, and Brent crude oil was trading 0.18% higher at $76.07 per barrel.

The Bloomberg Dollar Index fell by 0.2%, as the British Pound rose 0.2% to $1.2409 while the Japanese yen rose 0.3% to 157.07 per dollar.

Bitcoin, the largest traded cryptocurrency, fell 0.4% to $96,712.23.
