ICICI Securities Report

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has released an updated national list of essential medicines which includes 384 drugs across different therapies.

Although the list seems short in comparison to over 50,000 drugs that are being sold in India, the primary purpose of NLEM is to promote rational use of medicines on the basis of cost, safety and efficacy.

These essential medicines were chosen after 140 meetings and 350 consultations with industry experts. NLEM 2022 is the fourth revision after the original list was formulated in 1996.
