The NSE Nifty Auto index rose 0.60% to a high of 26,787.35 tracking gains in Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., TVS Motors Ltd. Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd. reported a loss of Rs 211 crore for the quarter ended in June. Elgi Equipments Ltd.'s net profit rose over 20% to Rs 73 crore. Shares of Ambuja Cements Ltd. erased losses as its profit came at Rs 571 crore against an estimate of Rs 519 crore.

Market breadth was skewed in favour of buyers. Around 2,132 stocks rose, 1,820 stocks declined, and 85 remained unchanged on BSE.
