Stock Market Highlights: Nifty, Sensex End Volatile Session In Red On Akshaya Tritya

The benchmark equity indices snapped two days of advances to end in red on Wednesday, ahead of market holiday.

The NSE Nifty 50 ended 1.75 points or 0.01% lower at 24,334.20, while the BSE Sensex closed 46.14 points, or 0.06% down at 80,242.24.

Intraday, Nifty 50 fell as much as 0.56% to 24,198.75. Sensex was down 0.51% to 779,879.15.

Shares of HDFC Bank Ltd., Bharti Airtel Ltd., Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., Reliance Industries Ltd. and HDFC Life Insurance Co. added to changes in the Nifty 50.

While those of Bajaj Finance Ltd., State Bank of India, Bajaj Finserv Ltd., Trent Ltd. and Tata Motors Ltd. weighed the Nifty 50.

On NSE, 11 of the 14 sectors fell with Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Media leading the decline. On the other hand, Nifty Auto, Nifty Consumption, Nifty Pharma and Nifty Realty were the three sectors that closed in green.

Nifty Realty emerged as top gaining sector for the day, led by Godrej Properties Ltd. and MacroTech Developers Ltd.

Nifty Auto, Nifty FMCG, Nifty Metal, Nifty IT, Nifty Bank, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Media ended lower for the second day in a row.

Nifty Oil and Gas snapped a two-day gaining streak.

On the BSE, 15 of the 21 sectors fell, with BSE Industrials and BSE Services leading declines.

The broader markets ended lower, with the BSE MidCap ending with losses of 0.72% and the SmallCap fell 1.74%.

The market breadth was skewed in the favour of sellers, as 2,935 stocks declined, 977 advanced and 151 remained unchanged on the BSE.
