India's stock benchmarks swung between losses and gains as a decline in consumer durables, automobiles and IT stocks were offset by an uptick in realty stocks.
The Sensex and Nifty 50 remained largely unchanged as of 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
The 30-stock gauge had lost more than 50 points during the day to hover around 59,000. The Nifty 50 traded around 17,600. Twenty-three of the Nifty 50 stocks rose, while 27 fell.
The broader indices outperformed their larger peers, with the mid-cap gauge gaining 0.2% and small-cap rising 0.6%. Fourteen of the 19 sectoral indices compiled by BSE Ltd. advanced, with realty gaining 2%.
The market breadth was skewed in favour of the bulls. About 2,064 stocks rose, 1,194 fell and 162 remained unchanged.
