Sensex, Nifty Decline After Two Days Of Gains: Market Wrap

Sensex closed 0.37% lower at 61,750.60. The Nifty 50 fell by similar magnitude to close at 18,343.90.

Indian stock benchmarks closed lower on Thursday, dragged by utilities, consumer durables and auto stocks.

The Sensex closed 0.37% lower at 61,750.60, while the Nifty 50 fell by a similar magnitude to close at 18,343.90.

Among the Nifty 50 constituents, 13 stocks rose while 37 declined.

Tata Consumer Products Ltd., Adani Enterprises Ltd., Larsen & Toubro Ltd., Power Grid Corp. of India Ltd. and HDFC Life Insurance Co. were the top gainers on the Nifty 50.

Titan Co., Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., Tata Motors Ltd., Eicher Motors Ltd. and Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd. were the top laggards.

The broader indices outperformed their larger peers with the Midcap and Smallcap gauge losing 0.33% and 0.27%, respectively.

Sixteen out of the 19 sectoral measures compiled by BSE Ltd. declined, with BSE utilities, auto, consumer durables and power index losing the most, at over 1%.

The market breadth is skewed in favour of bears. About 1,518 stocks rose, 1,990 fell and 108 remained unchanged.
