India's stock benchmarks ended firm for the second day in a row, aided by gains in metal, banking, and realty stocks.
The Sensex ended with 443 points or 0.75% gains at 59,245.98 after rising by over 500 points during the session on the BSE. The Nifty 50 also gained 0.7% to 17,665.80 on the NSE.
Among Nifty 50 constituents, 36 stocks rose while 14 fell. Hindalco Industries Ltd., JSW Steel Ltd., NTPC Ltd., ITC Ltd., Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd., Reliance Industries Ltd., and Larsen & Toubro Ltd. were among the top gainers.
The mid-cap index underperformed its larger peers, rising 0.5% while small-cap gauge slightly outperformed Sensex and Nifty, adding 0.9%. Barring oil & gas and power, all the other 17 sectoral indices compiled by BSE Ltd. advanced with metal index rising 2%.
The market breadth is skewed in the favour of bulls. About 2,220 stocks rose, 1,345 fell and 171 remained unchanged.
