Hero MotoCorp. and Bajaj Finserv Ltd. were among the top gainers on the NSE Nifty 50 on Thursday, while Tata Motors Ltd. and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. declined the most.

India's benchmark equity indices ended with gains, shrugging off fears from Trump's auto tariffs that rattled Asian markets. The NSE Nifty 50 ended 105.10 points or 0.45% higher at 23,591.95, while the BSE Sensex closed 317.93 points or 0.41% up at 77,606.43.

The share price of Hero MotoCorp advanced for the third day in a row, closing 3.13% up at Rs 3,760 apiece on the National Stock Exchange. The second-best performer was Bajaj Finserv, which settled 2.86% higher at Rs 1,999 apiece.

IndusInd Bank Ltd., NTPC Ltd. and Bharat Petroleum Corp. also closed the day with gains.

The top laggard was Tata Motors Ltd. as the stock fell 5.47% to Rs 669.50 apiece. The reaction came in response to US President Donald Trump's 25% tariffs on auto imports starting April 2.

The tariff would apply not only to fully assembled cars but key automobile parts, including engines, transmissions, powertrain parts and electrical components. Close to 31% of Jaguar Land Rover's retail sales come from the US and models are made in the UK.

Sun Pharma and Eicher Motors Ltd. ended over 1% lower.

On the Nifty, 38 stocks advanced and 12 declined. In terms of market cap, the 50-stock index added nearly Rs 95,000 crore in value.
