Nifty Top Gainers And Losers On Feb. 28: From HDFC Bank, Infosys To Coal India, TCS

Mahindra & Mahindra was one of the top companies dragging the Nifty index for the second consecutive day on Friday.

HDFC Bank Ltd., Shriram Finance Ltd. and Coal India Ltd. emerged as the top gainers on Friday. Infosys Ltd., Bharti Airtel Ltd., and ICICI Bank Ltd. were the worst performers of the Nifty 50 index.

The benchmark indices ended the week and the month with heavy losses on Friday, with the NSE Nifty 50 falling to the lowest level since June 5. The NSE Nifty 50 ended 420.35 points or 1.86% lower at 22,124.70, while the BSE Sensex closed 1,414.33 points or 1.9% down at 73,198.10.

In terms of sectoral performance all of the 12 sectors ended in the green. The top laggards in Friday's trade were Nifty IT and Nifty Auto.

HDFC Bank, the top gainer in the Nifty 50 index, closed 1.86% higher after it rose over 3.27% on Friday. The bank's shares were among the top gainers in the Nifty 50 index for the second day.

Shriram Finance's stock extended its rally for the second day and rose up to 2.18% to Rs 620 before closing 2.01% higher.

Coal India's stock rallied 3.27% to Rs 375.75 and closed 1.51% higher on Friday. Trent Ltd. also closed in the positive on Friday after it rose 1.48% to touch Rs 4,876.40.

On the flip side, Infosys shares plunged up to 4.64%, before closing 4.64% lower at Rs 1,682.45 apiece. Bharti Airtel fell as much as 5.51% to Rs 1,559.50 on Friday but it saw some recovery and closed 4.86% lower. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd.'s shares also closed 3.58% lower at Rs 3,483.25. ICICI Bank Ltd. were also among the worst performers for the day.

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. was one of the top companies dragging the Nifty index for the second consecutive day on Friday. Extending its losses, Mahindra's shares closed 4.86% higher after it fell over 5.66% to Rs 2,572.20 per share.
