FPIs Remain Net Sellers, Sell Stocks Worth Rs 1,492 Crore

Foreign portfolio investors stayed net sellers for the third straight session on Tuesday and sold stocks worth Rs 1,491.5 crore, according to provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

Domestic institutional investors stayed buyers for the 15th consecutive session and bought stocks worth Rs 1,615.3 crore.

So far in January, the FPIs have sold shares worth Rs 10,215 crore, according to the National Securities Depository Ltd.

Through 2024, overseas investors have been net sellers and collectively offloaded stocks worth Rs 7,078.3 crore, according to data from NSDL compiled by NDTV Profit. The DIIs stayed net buyers through the year and bought stocks worth Rs 8,282.8 crore.

However, according to data from the NSDL, which is updated till the previous trading day, foreign institutions have been net buyers of Rs 3,079.60 crore worth of Indian equities so far in 2025.

The benchmark equity indices reversed two sessions of decline to close higher on Tuesday, helped by a broad-based rally led by oil and gas, and financials.

The NSE Nifty 50 ended 91.85 points or 0.39% higher at 23,707.9, and the BSE Sensex advanced 234.12 points or 0.3% to close at 78,199.11. During the session, the Nifty rose as much as 0.76% to the day's high of 23,795.20. The Sensex climbed 0.63% to an intraday high of 78,452.74.

Information technology stocks, led by HCL Technologies Ltd. and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., faced heat ahead of quarterly results. The top gainers were Oil & Natural Gas Corp. and SBI Life Insurance Co .
