FPIs Net Buy Equities Worth Rs 5,393 Crore, Highest Since April 24

The net buying by FPIs on Thursday is nearly five times higher as compared to Rs 1,018.13 crore on Wednesday.

Foreign portfolio investors remained net buyers of Indian equities on Thursday for a second session, as they mopped up equities worth Rs 5,392.94 crore, highest since April 24, according to the provisional data from the National Stock Exchange.

Domestic institutional investors turned net sellers after four days of buying, as they offloaded equities worth Rs 1,668.47 crore, the data showed.

The net buying by FPIs on Thursday is nearly five times higher as compared to Rs 1,018.13 crore on Wednesday. So far in May, the overseas investors have net bought shares worth Rs 12,873 crore.

Last month, the overseas investors had net bought shares worth Rs 4,223 crore, according to the National Securities Depository Ltd.'s data. This came after the FPIs were net sellers on a monthly basis in the first three months of 2025.

In March, they had net offloaded equities worth Rs 3,973 crore, which was significantly lower as compared to the net selling of equities worth Rs 34,574 crore in February. This was preceded by net selling of Rs 78,027 crore in January.

In 2025 so far, the FPIs have net sold equities worth over Rs 99,478 crore, the NSDL data showed.

Meanwhile, the Indian benchmark equity indices closed higher for the second straight day on Thursday as share prices of Reliance Industries Ltd., HDFC Bank Ltd. and ICICI Bank Ltd. led the gains.

The NSE Nifty 50 ended 395.2 points or 1.6% higher at 25,062.1 and the BSE Sensex closed 1,200.18 points or 1.48% up at 82,530.74.
