Emory Hires UCLA Investment Officer to Manage Endowment

(Bloomberg) -- Srini Pulavarti, who runs the University of California at Los Angeles endowment, has been tapped to run Emory University's $6.9 billion fund.

Pulavarti will assume the chief investment officer post on July 1, replacing Mary Cahill who stepped down last July after leading Emory's endowment for almost 17 years, according to a statement from the Atlanta-based school on Wednesday.

“Srini Pulavarti is an innovative, forward-thinking investor with a proven track record of success,” said Christopher Augostini, Emory's executive vice president for business and administration, in the statement. “His energy, intellect and collaborative style in this highly complex environment have driven outstanding results for the institutions he served.”

Prior to joining UCLA's $2.3 billion investment office in 2012, Pulavarti was the president and CIO of Spider Management, the endowment manager behind the University of Richmond in Virginia, since 2005, according to the statement. He also has worked at Johns Hopkins' endowment.

Emory's endowment investments returned 12.8 percent in the fiscal year through June 2017, as the fund reached a record high, according to Elaine Justice, a spokeswoman for the school.
