Centre Again Postpones Quality Control Orders For PP And PVC Materials

The central government has once again delayed the enforcement of Quality Control Orders (QCOs) for Polypropylene (PP) materials used in moulding and extrusion, as well as Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) homopolymers. The new compliance deadline is now set for December 24, 2025.

This marks the fourth revision to the QCOs for these materials, which were initially scheduled to be implemented on June 24, 2025. The Centre had previously postponed the applicability of these quality control measures in December 2024, setting a new date of June 24, 2025. This latest amendment extends the deadline further to December 2025.

Once the QCOs are in effect, the import and sale of PP and PVC materials that do not comply with Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) regulations will be prohibited. This move aims to ensure higher quality and safety standards for these widely used materials.

Polypropylene and Poly Vinyl Chloride are essential in various industries. PP is utilised in moulding to create intricate shapes for products such as automotive parts, household appliances, and packaging. In extrusion, it is formed into sheets, films, fibers, and profiles. PVC, on the other hand, is extensively used in construction for piping, house siding, and window and door frames. It is also a key material in the production of plastic bottles, packaging, and bank cards.
